An ode to the OGs

48 hours into a family weekend at the lake and I am reminded of the greatness of a pair of Teva sandals. The grace of a velcro strap. The care of cushy material. The mastery in designing sandals that actually float in water.

So in honour, jumping right in with a week dedicated to the best thing made for the thing! Rounding out summer itineraries with a nod to the most authentic versions of our favourites.

Behold, the classics. Like Tevas. And Raybans. And Levi’s. Tried, tested, and time-honoured for exactly what they were made to do. So good at their job, they don’t even register when someone wears them.

Carrying a quiet confidence knowing they’re the real deal. Successfully accomplishing the impossible task of becoming impervious to trend cycles. Cemented into our social zeitgeist as the thing itself.

Much like the boat shoe revival, where the real deal reigns no truer than a non-slip deck shoe made by a real fisherman after, for real, being thrown overboard at sea.

Though best in class isn’t just about the OGs. Also honouring newer brands who have taken the time, effort, and investment into making the best thing for whatever task it’s supposed to accomplish. Pieces that solve a real problem, and because of that, their form feels timeless.

As it goes, the irony in the whole thing is that authenticity wears best. Is there any greater signal of personal style than knowing what’s on the pulse, and choosing the original anyway?? Utility adds an offbeat element. Practicality brings a sense of your things well lived. Classics carry the style weight for you.

Trying not overthink it. Because mismatched is the name of the game anyway. Enter your girly dress paired with a pair of easy Tevas for a BBQ. Your outdoor wedding guest attire with classic Raybans. A sporty Nike jacket with trousers for work commute. Style wise, the less sense it makes with the outfit, the more it’s probably a perfect version of itself.
