August Side Quests
it's August 7th, may as well wear a scarf as a top
I read somewhere (probably Instagram), sometime last weekend (probably while sitting outside on my patio): “you’re not bored, you just have no side quests.”
Surely, I was bored when I read it. Which is inevitably why it stuck with me. Last weekend was an extended long weekend in Canada. With most of our friends away at cabins and cottages practicing Summer Canadiana, we were home with very few plans. To have little kids and a long weekend with no plans is wonderful: a weekend of beautiful, unspoiled family time. Absolutely. It’s also kind of like going through airport security. You start out relatively calm at first. Then as you inch closer to the front, everything descends into chaos. Plus, in both scenarios there’s someone demanding incessantly to know how many snacks and drink you brought in your bag. Love my kids!!!!!!!!
Anyway, side quests. It’s not fall yet (no matter what the Internet tries to convince us of). Nor is it the newly established fake season, pre-fall. It’s August 7th. That’s still summer in my sweaty, sunny, sun-kissed books. Even better, at this point we know what our summer wardrobes have to offer; hopefully having settled into some sense of summer style that is working for us.
That said, any big wardrobe investments are forward looking at this point. Jess Graves said it pointedly in that I’m not looking to buy new summer clothes, even if I’m still firmly planted in a summer mindset. And that’s cool, that’s great. It leaves a little extra space to find pockets of fun that keep the summer magic going. August side quests!
At current, here are a few of mine. Four not-so-guilty hyper-fixations, since a guilty plea wouldn’t convince me anyway :)
SCARVES UP, DOWN, ALL AROUND
It’s not high summer until you go through a phase of tying a scarf in, on and around your body.
ROLY-POLY
By this point in the season, I have the conviction to add that extra roll to the waistband of all my shorts. Pop off, shorty shorts!!
A NEW CLICKITY CLACK BAG
Seeking a new (but hopefully very old) laptop bag. My side quest has led me to a specific discovery and it’s this: If a vintage Hermes Garden Tote and the Metier Private Eye had a less expensive baby, it would be a vintage Mulberry Bayswater. I yammmmm obsesseddddddd.

HAPPY JACKETS
If anything, perhaps it’s a good time to find an easy, throw-on-and-go jacket. Something that sits happily between summer and fall (fuck, did I just describe pre-fall?)
Anyyyyway,

A CASE FOR THE ANKLES
A single, simple chain.
You know, before ankles go into hiding.
And there we have it for the week. If you have any good August side quests keeping you occupied, please send my way so I can revel with you. A good obsession only gets better when obsessed over together!!
Happy Friday,
xx Jordyn

My hyper-fixation/August side quest is planning my spring family vacation to Colorado. It’s the longest trip we’ve taken and I am enjoying researching everything there is to do and what I’m going to wear!
You are the only person I know who can not only rock a baby bump, but pair it so well with a scarf as a top. One in a million!
